Between 27 April and 10 September 2009 development work will be undertaken on taxiways connecting Heathrow's southern runway with the rest of the airfield. This means that Heathrow's night time runway alternation schedule will change during this period.
BAA is constructing taxiways to link the new Heathrow East terminal development to the southern runway. Heathrow East is at the heart of BAA's ambitious £4bn investment plan to transform Heathrow and deliver an improved experience for our passengers and airline customers alike.
For safety reasons, the work will be carried out at night to enable the closure of the airport's southern runway. Heathrow's normal night time runway alternation pattern will not take place during this period. On weeknights, the northern runway will be used for all landings. At the weekend, the majority of landings will use the southern runway to enable routine maintenance work to take place on the northern runway.
"We know that for some local residents this will have an effect on the level of aircraft noise that they experience at night. We are very sorry for the disturbance whilst this work is carried out. We will do everything we can to finish the work as quickly as possible," said Colin Matthews, BAA's CEO.
If you would like to speak to somebody about the noise impact of these works or have an enquiry regarding aircraft noise please call the communications team on 0800 344 844 or email noise_complaints@baa.com.
