Heathrow has been crowned the best airport for shopping for a second year running at the Business Traveller Awards.
The airport was also named the second best airport in Europe and the fourth best in the world at the awards, which took place on Monday 20th September at Kensington’s Royal Garden Hotel.
The awards are voted for by the readers of Business Traveller magazine and are widely recognised as a benchmark for excellence within the business travel and hospitality sector.
With more than 750,000 square feet of retail space, Heathrow is home to more than 500 shops and brands including premium names such as Harrods, Prada, Gucci and World Duty Free. A new Burberry boutique in Terminal 5 and the new Hackett store in Terminal 4 have recently opened.
Building on the success of Terminal 5, Heathrow last year unveiled its new-look Terminal 4, which provided a new check-in and departure area for passengers following a £200 million redevelopment and which includes the first-ever Cath Kidston airport store and premium fashion brands such as Jimmy Choo and Etro amongst other exclusives.
Brian Woodhead, Heathrow retail concessions director, said: “The Business Traveller Awards are highly regarded within the industry so we are absolutely thrilled to have been recognised as the best airport for shopping for a second year running, and to be closing in on Amsterdam in the best European airport category.
"This award is a credit to the many people working hard to make every passenger's journey better than the last one, and to providing the excellent shopping experience we know our passengers expect."
A number of Heathrow's partners also won awards. The Virgin Clubhouse was voted the best airline lounge, the Sofitel at Terminal 5 was voted the best new business hotel and Heathrow Express came second in the UK domestic train company category.
