Check out the check-in at Terminal 3

Check-in at Terminal 3 has been successfully refurbished ahead of time, ready for the summer holiday season. £16 million has been invested in improving the area for passengers and airlines; creating a more modern space, and installing technology to make the check-in process more efficient.

Thirty self-service check-in machines are now in place; new lighting and ceilings are now in place, and check-in desks have been re-clad and fitted with state-of-the-art flight information display screens.

Rob Norrington, Terminal 3 Development Leader, says: “We’ve worked hard to refurbish check-in so that passengers flying away this summer enjoy the best airport experience possible. Check-in remained open throughout, which certainly added to the challenge; however we planned carefully and worked with our airline partners throughout. As a result the team delivered the project with no impact and completed it ahead of schedule.”

Refurbishing the check-in area is just one element in a £133 million programme of work currently under way in Terminal 3. Soon, the terminal will have the largest security search area at the airport with 17 lanes. Over £20 million will also be invested on renovating the Immigration and Baggage Reclaim halls, with work due to be complete by 2011.

New doors are being fitted to Terminal 3’s entrance over the coming months.

Over the next five years £4bn is being invested in completely redesigning, rebuilding and refurbishing Heathrow’s terminals. Work is already under way on Terminal 2A, a stunning replacement for Terminals 1 and 2, while £178 million is being invested at Terminal 4.
