Family friendly bank holiday getaway at Heathrow

Heathrow is preparing for the August bank holiday getaway with a range of family-friendly initiatives to make the airport as stress-free as possible, including dedicated family lanes at security, pre-flight children’s play areas and ‘kids eat free’ offers.

This bank holiday weekend is anticipated to be the busiest on record, with over 852,000 passengers set to fly through Heathrow between Friday and Monday. The most popular destinations are New York, Dubai, Dublin, Frankfurt and Los Angeles.

There will be extra customer service staff on hand at check in and baggage reclaims to ensure a smooth journey. Passengers with young children can use Heathrow’s Reserve & Collect service to ensure that baby milk, wipes and nappies are already waiting for them after security.

Pre-flight play areas are located in all terminals, and kids will be able to eat for free in selected restaurants including Cafe Rouge in Terminal 1, Three Bells in Terminal 3, Dining Street in Terminal 4 and Huxleys in Terminal 5.

Heathrow is also working closely with a team of ‘Mummy Bloggers’, who recently visited the airport to help us make family getaways as easy as possible.

John Holland-Kaye, Heathrow’s Commercial Director, said: “We are expecting lots of families to travel through the airport over the bank holiday so we introduced a number of initiatives to make the journey as stress-free as possible.

"This includes dedicated family lanes at security, children’s play areas in all terminals and extra staff on hand at check-in and baggage reclaim.”
