The bricks and mortar industry's very own Woodstock, Construction Rocks 2010, takes place tonight at the Argent's German Gymnasium venue in King's Cross – and Heathrow will be represented by their very own BAAnd, raising money for Help for Heroes.
The supergroup, formed of BAA employees, warmed up for their appearance at the building band bash with a whirlwind world tour around the Heathrow campus on 2 November.
Gigs took place in all four terminals, the Compass Centre and a last-minute slot at the Heathrow Safe health and safety marquee in the N4 car park. Favourite tunes such as Meat Loaf's Dead Ringer for Love and T’Pau’s China in Your Hand were amongst the setlist.
The BAAnd have raised more than £5,000 for Help for Heroes so far – a staggering amount five times their original target.
The sum puts them on course to take home the coveted top fundraising prize at Construction Rocks where they will compete against building industry company in-house rock bands.
Band manager Jason Holmes, Heathrow's technical commissioning lead, said: “Our previous group was decimated by Spinal Tap style mishaps and we had to start the BAAnd together again from scratch.
"The new lineup really does get the volume up to eleven, playing melodious music that made people want to part with their cash for Help for Heroes. I’m really proud of them and hope we make Heathrow proud too by bringing home the Construction Rocks 2010 title."
