Heathrow becomes the first airport to be featured in the BAFTA-nominated series – with a first-class Steinway piano now permanently installed for passengers to play
Heathrow has struck a high note as the first airport ever to be featured on popular Channel 4 series, The Piano. The show has returned for its third season, with Terminal 5’s bustling check-in area transformed into a grand stage for amateur pianists from across the UK.
Known for heartwarming performances and discovering new talent, The Piano typically showcases amateur performers in train stations, including Manchester Piccadilly and London Victoria. But this season, Heathrow has joined the transport hubs, offering a unique backdrop and an audience of travellers from around the world.
The filming featured a world-class Steinway piano, which is now permanently installed in Terminal 5. The piano, complete with a plaque to commemorate the partnership, is available for all passengers to play, bringing music and joy to Europe’s largest airport.
Hosted by Claudia Winkleman and now featuring multi-Grammy-winning artist Jon Batiste alongside returning mentor Mika, the show’s newest series continues its mission to uncover extraordinary talent in everyday places.
Dwayne Black, Terminal 5 Manager at Heathrow, said: “We’re proud to have been part of this exciting series of The Piano, and we’re thrilled to have a part of the show permanently installed in Terminal 5. Music has the power to bring comfort, joy and connection – and with hundreds of talented people passing through Heathrow every day, we hope this new addition to the terminal helps make their journeys extraordinary.”
Tune in to watch The Piano at Heathrow on Channel 4 on Sunday 11 May, and discover what happened when Heathrow turned its check-in into a concert hall.
