Heathrow brings a taste of the royal wedding to arriving passengers

With just five days to go until Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tie the knot, Heathrow is celebrating the pair saying ‘I do’ by welcoming passengers who arrive during the ceremony on Saturday 19 May with a regal fanfare.

Inspired by the happy couple’s wedding cake, Heathrow is serving 1,000 handmade ‘royal’ lemon and elderflower cupcakes to inbound passengers, who will also be greeted by the sight of a Queen’s Guard, Beefeater and patriotic bunting, as well as the sounds of a Royal Trumpeter

The ‘royal welcome’ will take place in arrivals at the airport’s four terminals on Saturday 19 May, from 10am – 4pm, with the airport expecting to see more than 109,000 passengers land on the big day. In the week leading up to the event (12 - 18 May 2018), Heathrow is due to see 9% more arrivals from North America and a 3.4% growth of total arrivals, versus 2017*.

Those waiting for their flights in the airport can rest assured they won’t miss the eagerly anticipated ceremony, with Heathrow confirming screens across all terminals will be tuned to BBC News 24, broadcasting the wedding live.  Large scale event TVs in Terminals 3 and 4 will be tuned to BBC1 for additional royal wedding coverage.

Chris Garton, Chief Operating Officer at Heathrow comments: “The royal wedding has driven an increase in international visitors who wish to experience a uniquely joyful British event.

“At Heathrow, we’re passionate about creating memorable experiences for all our passengers and certainly want our travellers to enjoy the royal wedding celebration in style. What better way to do that than by arriving to a taste of the happy couple’s wedding cake, a traditional Queen’s Guard, Beefeater and Royal Trumpeter!”

‘Royal’ lemon and elderflower cupcakes, Queen’s Guard, Beefeater, and Royal Trumpeter will appear across each of the following terminals on Saturday 19 May:

  • Terminal 2 from 10am – 1pm
  • Terminal 5 from 1.30pm – 4pm

‘Royal’ lemon and elderflower cupcakes will be handed out across each of the following terminals on Saturday 19 May:

  • Terminal 3 from 10am – 12pm
  • Terminal 4 from 10am – 12pm
