Heathrow’s apprentices learn from UK’s business and political elite

At the conference, which was also attended by 40 Heathrow-sponsored students from local colleges in Hounslow, Hillingdon and Ealing, the five apprentices met privately with Ed Miliband MP, Leader of the Opposition, Vince Cable MP, Secretary of State for Business Innovation and Skills, and Greg Clark, Financial Secretary to the Treasury.

The conference saw business leader and politicians discuss the global economy, access to finance, the future economy and entrepreneurship and business connectivity.

Jack Glennon, 22, Advanced Engineering Apprentice at Heathrow, said:

“It was a great opportunity to spend time with politicians that you’d normally only see on the TV or in the paper. We had a chance to the talk to them about the apprenticeship scheme at Heathrow – they were interested in the variety of our roles at the airport and why we had chosen to follow an apprenticeship scheme.”

The five of Heathrow’s engineering apprentices who attended the conference were: Daniel Burke (Ealing), Jack Glennon (Reading), Kenna Hamilton (Kingston), Sally Rose (Hanwell) and Daniel Young (Yateley).
