Heathrow legal team aids Bedfont School gardeners

A team from BAA's legal department took time out from their normal work to volunteer for a day at Bedfont School, near Heathrow airport, to help transform the school’s garden in memory of a teaching assistant who recently passed away.

The seventeen-strong group worked with school governors in advance of the day to plan the garden, which now features a memorial to popular Shirley Lake who passed away earlier in the year. In addition, the group refurbished a classroom by removing rafters and pegs and giving the room a sparkling new coat of paint, as well as installing new coat pegs for children.

Flowers and shrubs were supplied by BAA. The tools and equipment were kindly provided by Wilson James, the construction and aviation logistics company.

Carol Hui, BAA's General Counsel, who was a member of the group said “For the team it proved a fantastic day out. We were able to create something useful for a very worthwhile cause and also had a great opportunity to build our team working skills. Thankfully the weather held out through the day and the final result was just what the staff at the school were hoping for.”

Bedfont Junior and Infants Schools merged earlier this year to form one 450-strong unified school from reception to year 6, still based at the Hatton Road site it has occupied for 162 years. BAA's legal team will return to the school at the start of term to hear the children's verdict on their hard work.
