Heathrow Journey Team lead the way at 2010 Frontier Awards

The Heathrow Journey Team have scooped a prestigious travel industry award for their partnership initiative with the airport’s retailers at the Frontier Awards held this week in Cannes (Wednesday 20th October).

Introduced last year to provide a superior retail and customer service experience for the 65 million passengers who use the airport every year,  the Heathrow Journey Team were awarded Best Partnership Initiative of the Year.  The team consists of 55 multilingual Heathrow ambassadors who work across the four terminals and collectively speak 39 languages.

As well as overseeing two innovative services designed to make shopping easier at Heathrow - Shop & Collect and Reserve & Collect – the Journey Team are also able to transfer items requested in advance from different terminals to passengers before they fly.  These shopping services, combined with their general passenger assistance, have generated over £10 million worth of sales so far this year.

The Frontier Awards have been an annual fixture for the travel retail industry since 1985 and are judged by a panel of six top executives from across the industry.

Justin Baines, head of marketing at Heathrow, said: “The Heathrow Journey Team are highly skilled and have extensive knowledge of Heathrow, its services and the many languages spoken by our passengers who arrive from over 180 destinations worldwide.

“They’ve been hugely popular with both retailers and passengers so we’re overjoyed that they’ve been recognised for all their hard work.  Connecting passengers with the right retail services for them is not just good for business, but plays a key role in supporting Heathrow’s ‘making every journey better’ brand proposition.”
